Webinar – Affordable Care Act

We invite you to join our webinar “The Affordable Care Act: A New Opportunity for Social Work”

The Affordable Care Act: A New Opportunity for Social Work

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) is dramatically influencing the delivery of health care and long-term services and supports (LTSS) for older adults and people with disabilities. Yet many social work education programs are not preparing their students with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to work effectively within the rapidly changing health and LTSS environments created by the ACA.

Learn from two highly regarded social work practitioners—Robyn Golden from Rush University Medical Center and June Simmons from Partners in Care Foundation—about the primary provisions of the ACA that create opportunities for new social work roles related to prevention-based programs, coordinated care, and the management and delivery of LTSS. They will also provide strategies to prepare social work graduates with the necessary competencies to be successful leaders. Key objectives:

(1) Discuss how the ACA affects social work practice related to care coordination and transitions, interdisciplinary team roles, and methods by which hospitals and healthcare organizations can more effectively use social workers.

(2) Identify implications of the ACA for social work education, curricular change, and teaching resources.

(3) Articulate the knowledge, skills, and values that social workers need to work effectively in the context of the ACA.

Be sure to register (below) and forward this invitation to your colleagues.

Robyn Golden, LCSW and June Simmons, MSW
